Market Drayton is a small market town in north Shropshire, England.
It lies on the River Tern, between Shrewsbury and Stoke-on-Trent,
and was formerly known as "Drayton in Hales" (c. 1868) and earlier
simply as "Drayton" (c. 1695).

There are a number of 17th and 18th century half-timbered buildings
in the town centre, as well as a restored Norman church, St. Mary's,
next to the Grammar School of 1558.

The town's marketplace is ancient, with a market charter granted
from 1246, and the market still runs every Wednesday
throughout the year.

The town claims to be "home of the gingerbread", which has been
produced in area for over 200 years.

It's most famous resident was Robert Clive AKA Clive of India

Its population of nearly 11,000 enjoy some of the best countryside
England has to offer, as well as some beautiful walks along
stretches of the Shropshire Union Canal.
