Market Drayton Lions

Thank you for buying our Plants and Vegetables and helping your local community.

The Lions Club of Market Drayton distributed their Spring Plant and Vegetables to homes in the Market Drayton, area over the May Bank holiday weekend. In the past we have donated plants to 4 local Schools, Longlands Primary, Market Drayton Infant and Nursery, Buntingsdale Infant, and Market Drayton Junior School. This year we widened our area to including 5 more Schools, Morton Say Primary, Hinstock Primary, Hodnet Primary and Stoke-on-Turn primary school. (Not all the schools took up our offer of free plants) We emailed our Catalogue and asked the children to choose what plants or vegetables, they wanted. We know how much they enjoy getting, planting, and watching their plants grow. Buntingsdale Infant decided to have an herb garden this year growing, Marjoram, Rosemary, Thyme, Basil, Sage, Parsley and Mint. Stoke-on-Turn Primary went for vegetables; Market Drayton Juniors went for a mixture of flowers and vegetable.

We will be at Morrison's Supermarket on Saturday 12th June and at Fordhall farm on the 13th

Saturday 19th June will be our Community Fun Day at Buntingsdale Recreation Park (opposite Christ Church)

Local Police

Two experienced police officers have been appointed to take charge of Local Policing in the Market Drayton and Whitchurch areas. Sergeants Lisa Bradbury and Kirsty Hill took up their new roles on Monday and will be responsible for continuing the development and promotion of Local Policing in the two areas. Local Policing Officers and Community Support Officers are based in their local communities, as a fixed point of contact for residents to raise any issues or matters of concern. Both sergeants bring considerable policing experience to their roles - previously carried out by one sergeant covering both areas - and also have strong local links. Sergeant Bradbury joined West Mercia Police in 1991, serving at Worcester and Evesham, before moving to Shropshire in 1995. She initially worked in both Whitchurch and Market Drayton and was "community officer" for Market Drayton for four years. During this time, she was awarded the Meynell Trophy as Shropshire's community officer of the year. She said: "During this period, I enjoyed the challenges of working closely with many town and parish councillors and being involved with many local projects." The next five years were spent with the newly-formed Youth Offending Team as part of a multi-agency team working across Shropshire to support young people in steering them away from crime. On promotion in 2005, Sergeant Bradbury moved to Shrewsbury to manage the divisional public service desk and was also part of a team which helped integrate the Policing Pledge into the day to day work of assisting with public enquiries. Last year, while working as the Citizen Focus Manager, she was nominated for West Mercia's police officer manager of the year. Sergeant Bradbury, who is married with a young son and lives in the Market Drayton area, returned to the town late last year, initially working as a Response officer before being offered her current role. She said: "I was excited and honoured to be asked to become the Local Policing sergeant. I will be working with a small team of police officers and community support officers who are committed to the area. "Many of the people I worked with on my last posting are still here, including councillors, teachers and multi-agency workers and I hope we can again work closely together to serve Market Drayton and surrounding villages." Sergeant Hill joined West Mercia Police as a communications room operator in 1996. Having gained an insight into the police service, she became an officer in January 1999. Her first posting was at Wellington police station, transferring to north Shropshire eight years ago, working mainly from Whitchurch police station. Since then, she has worked in the Domestic Abuse Unit based with Shrewsbury CID. She said: "The area of domestic abuse is one in which I have seen policing partnerships with other agencies used to great effect in providing support and protection for victims." Sergeant Hill, who lives in the Whitchurch area with her young family, says she has a personal interest in the area, the people and the issues that concern them. "I am very much looking forward to the challenge of my new role as Local Policing sergeant in Whitchurch and surrounding villages. I intend to introduce myself to as many local people as I can in the coming months". She added: "I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to me and our Local Policing Team both through formal arrangements such as PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings, and informally when you see us about on patrol." Kirsty is on the left and Lisa on the right.
